The Panthers baseball team continued to get ready for Region III West Division play with another non-region game Wednesday. Despite losing to the Ithaca College J.V., the Panthers were able to get some valuable work in for every pitcher that dressed for the game. The result drops the Panthers record to 2-6, but hopefully better positions the team for the long regional schedule ahead.

Ithaca College JV 9, Tompkins Cortland 7

While holding out a few players with minor injuries, the Panthers were able to throw seven pitchers and play a total of 17 players during the nine-inning game. The combined effort on the mound struck out eight Bombers while allowing 12 hits. While the hurlers gave up nine runs, they kept the Panthers in the game the entire way.

At the plate, seven different Panthers had at least one hit, with four hitters recording two. Ethan Buckley (Bath/Haverling H.S.) had a double and home run while driving in a pair of runs. Joseph Tummino (Homer/Homer H.S.) drove in two runs with a pair of extra-base hits, using a double and a triple. Austin Kulas (Moravia/Moravia H.S.) also had two RBI, recording a double between his two hits. Brandon Grant (Homer/Homer H.S.) also had two hits and the other RBI.

Looking ahead

The Panthers return to Gutchess Park on Wednesday, March 27 to take on Jefferson Community College in the final games before Region III West Division play begins.
