Seven Tompkins Cortland Community College student-athletes have been honored for their academic excellence by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Sage Garrison (Odessa/Odessa-Montour H.S.), Amanda Green (Lansing/Lansing H.S.), Austin Kulas (Moravia/Moravia H.S.), and Kaylie Yerdon (Cherry Valley/Cherry Valley H.S.) were recognized for the second straight year; it was the first time honored for Kimberly Duda (Homer/Homer H.S.), Jessica Fisk (Waterloo/Waterloo H.S.), and Ryan Foody (Tully /Tully H.S.).

Joseph Tummino (Homer/Homer H.S.) has been voted the Defensive Player of the Year by coaches in Region III of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). In addition to being the leading vote-getter on the Region’s Glove Team, the freshman was also named to the All-Region second team. All the voting is done by the coaches of the 17 teams in Region III.
Four Tompkins Cortland Community College players have earned spots on the Mid-State Athletic Conference baseball all-conference team. In voting by the coaches from the seven MSAC programs, Alex Babcock (Cortland/Cortland H.S.), Ryan Ballard (Rochester/Greece Athena H.S.), Austin Kulas (Moravia/Moravia H.S.), and Joseph Tummino (Homer/Homer H.S.) were selected for the 15-player team.

With the results of other West Division games, Panthers baseball has been eliminated from playoff contention. The Panthers were one of the hottest teams at the end of the season, winning 8 of their last 10, but fall just short of making a return postseason trip.
The regular season finale for the Panthers baseball team, a doubleheader against nationally ranked Niagara County Community College, was washed out on Tuesday. The teams made it through three innings of the first game at Cornell University before Mother Nature won out and the games were called. The fate of the Panthers' playoff hopes now rest with the results of other teams' games the res of the week. The final field for the Region III playoffs won't be determined until Thursday, with the playoffs starting Saturday.
The Panthers baseball team picked up a pair of crucial wins Sunday, sweeping a doubleheader at Jamestown Community College by the score of 8-7 in each game. The wins improve the Panthers to 19-16 overall and 15-10 in the West Division, and keeps the team alive in the race for the final playoff spot. Jamestown is 7-18 overall and 6-16 in the division.
Bouncing back from a heart-breaking loss in the opener to earn a doubleheader split, the Panthers baseball team gained some ground in the late-season push for a playoff spot. After losing 3-2 to Onondaga Community College in game one, Tompkins Cortland won game two 4-1. The split moves the Panthers to 17-16 overall and 13-10 in the West Division. Combined with Niagara’s sweep of Genesee on Saturday, the Panthers are now one game behind Genesee for fourth place and the final playoff spot in the West Division. Onondaga 12-23 overall and 10-21 in division.
A two-run rally in extra innings gave the Panthers baseball team a walk-off win and a doubleheader sweep of Corning Community College Thursday, keeping the hopes alive for making the postseason. Tompkins Cortland won the first game 9-2 before needing eight innings to win the second game, 5-4. The wins improves the Panthers to 12-9 in the West Division, still in fifth place, and 16-15 overall. Corning is 11-25 overall and 8-20 in division.
The Panthers baseball team picked up a much-needed doubleheader sweep of Corning Community College Tuesday, winning by scores of 10-5 and 7-0. The wins move the Panthers into fifth place in the West Division. With just over a week left in the regular season, Tompkins Cortland is still in contention for one of the playoff spots given to the top four teams in the West Division. Tompkins Cortland’s record is now 10-9 in the West Division and 14-15 overall. Corning is 11-23 overall and 8-18 in division.
The Panthers baseball team missed out on a chance to gain ground in the Region III West Division standings Thursday. The Panthers entered the day in 6th place in the division, just one win behind Genesee Community College, which came to town in 4th place. The Panthers won game one 8-7 but fell flat in game two, losing 12-1 to remain in 6th place. Tompkins Cortland’s record is now 12-15 overall and 8-9 in the West Division. Genesee is 21-14 overall and 9-6 in division.
In a game that featured a combined 24 runs scored, the Panthers couldn’t hold an early lead, and then came up short with a last-inning rally, falling 13-11 at Genesee Community College Tuesday. The game was scheduled as the first half of a doubleheader, but rain forced the second game to be called off. The result leaves Tompkins Cortland with a record of 11-14 overall and 7-8 in West Division play. Genesee is 20-13 overall and 8-5 in West Division.
For the first time this season, the home field was no advantage for the Panthers baseball team. Tompkins Cortland hosted Finger Lakes Community College on Thursday, dropping both games by final scores of 11-5 and 5-0. The result was the first time this year Tompkins Cortland has lost both ends of a home doubleheader and drops the Panthers to 11-13 overall and 7-7 in West Division play. Finger Lakes is 23-15 overall and 12-4 in West Division.
Needing a bounce-back performance after dropping the opener against Finger Lakes Community College Tuesday, Joseph Tummino (Homer/Homer H.S.) stepped up to the challenge and delivered both on the mound and at the plate, helping the Panthers to a split with the Lakers. Finger Lakes won game on 6-1 and the Panthers took game two 4-2. Tompkins Cortland is now 11-11 overall and 7-5 in West Division play. Finger Lakes is 20-15 overall and 10-4 in West Division.
After seeing a 4-1 lead evaporate, the Panthers baseball team rallied for a 5-4 win in the opener of a West Division doubleheader against Onondaga Community College on Saturday. The rally fell short in the nightcap as the Panthers lost game two 10-8 to split the doubleheader. Tompkins Cortland is now 10-10 overall and 6-4 in West Division play. Onondaga is 6-14 overall and 4-12 in West Division.
The air might have been cold Thursday in Binghamton, but the bats were sizzling hot as the Panthers set several offensive records with a sweep of SUNY Broome, 26-3 and 15-1. The wins move Tompkins Cortland’s record to 9-9 overall and 5-3 in Region III West Division play. Broome drops to 2-14 overall and 1-11 in West Division.
After winning the first game of a doubleheader by the mercy rule, it is always disappointing to end the day with a split. That’s exactly what happened to the Panthers on Tuesday as Tompkins Cortland beat SUNY Broome 12-0 in game one before losing 6-2 in game two. Tompkins Cortland is now 7-9 overall and 3-3 in Region III West Division play. Broome is 2-12 overall and 1-9 in West Division.
The Panthers traveled to Niagara Falls Sunday to take on one of the top teams in the nation in Niagara County Community College. After dropping the opener 13-2, the Panthers were in the nightcap until the late innings of the nightcap, losing 9-3 to the #6-ranked Thunderwolves. Tompkins Cortland is now 6-8 overall and 2-2 in West Division. Niagara is 18-4 overall and 6-0 in West Division.
The baseball and softball games scheduled for Saturday, April 6 have been postponed due to poor field conditions. The baseball team was scheduled to host Niagara County Community College and the softball team was scheduled to host Monroe Community College. Makeup dates have not yet been confirmed.
Opening Region III West Division play, the Panthers swept a doubleheader from Jamestown Community College Thursday, 7-3 and 11-9. Tompkins Cortland has now won four straight to even its overall record at 6-6. Jamestown drops to 1-4 overall. It was also the West Division opener for the Jayhawks.
The baseball and softball games scheduled for Tuesday, April 2 have been postponed. The snow that welcomed the month of April has left fields unplayable, so the baseball doubleheader at Jamestown Community College and the softball doubleheader at Cayuga Community College have been postponed.
A history-making pitching performance by freshman Ethan Buckley (Bath/Haverling H.S.) set the Panthers baseball team up for a doubleheader sweep of Jefferson Community College Wednesday. Playing at Gutchess Park in Cortlandville, Tompkins Cortland won by scores of 14-0 and 9-7 to improve to 4-6 on the year overall and 2-0 against Mid-State Athletic Conference opponents. Jefferson is 2-11 overall and 2-4 against MSAC teams.
The Panthers baseball team continued to get ready for Region III West Division play with another non-region game Wednesday. Despite losing to the Ithaca College J.V., the Panthers were able to get some valuable work in for every pitcher that dressed for the game. The result drops the Panthers record to 2-6, but hopefully better positions the team for the long regional schedule ahead.
Trailing 7-0 midway through Sunday’s game, the Panthers rallied, pulling within one run two different times before running out of time in a 14-13 loss to Middlesex County College (N.J.). Tompkins Cortland Community College is now 2-5 while Middlesex is 7-1.
The offense came alive for the Panthers baseball team Saturday as the team picked up its first two wins of the season, sweeping a doubleheader from Kingsborough Community College, 19-6 and 10-5. Tompkins Cortland Community College is now 2-4 this year while Kingsborough drops to 0-5.
The Tompkins Cortland Community College baseball team ended 2018 by winning nine of the last ten regular season games to earn the program’s first playoff appearance in eight years. The Panthers won more games than ever before (22) and set program records in several categories. That team set a high bar for the program, one that future teams will try to reach and push even higher.
The Tompkins Cortland Community College baseball team dropped the final two games of its season-opening weekend trip to Maryland, losing to Community College of Baltimore County-Catonsville 15-4 and 8-2 on Sunday. The Panthers went winless in four games against the Cardinals to start the season 0-4. Catonsville, a Division II team, is now 6-5 overall.
With snow still covering the fields back home, the Tompkins Cortland Community College baseball team opened its 2019 season on the road Saturday, heading to Maryland to play a doubleheader with Community College of Baltimore County-Catonsville. While it was the first time outside for the Panthers, the Cardinals came in with seven games under their belt, and it showed as the host team won both games in convincing fashion, 16-1 and 24-0. The Panthers are now 0-2 while CCBC-Catonsville, a Division II team, is 4-5 overall.
