Rough Day for Panthers

The Tompkins Cortland Community College baseball team's worst day of the year came Sunday at nationally ranked Niagara County Community College as the Panthers lost 20-2 and 10-0. The Panthers are now 13-13 overall and 6-9 in the West Division. Niagara, ranked fifth in the current NJCAA National Poll, is now 22-4 overall and 10-2 in the West Division.

Game 1: Niagara 20, Tompkins Cortland 2 (5 innings)

The Panthers actually led in this game, scoring a single run in the top of the first. Niagara answered quickly in the bottom of the first, and scored in each of the four innings they hit. The knockout punch came in the fourth when the Thunderwolves scored 15 to turn the game into a blowout.

 

Game 2:  Niagara 10, Tompkins Cortland 0  (5 innings)

The second game also featured a big inning for the home team, this time coming in the form of a six-run second inning. For the second straight game, the Panthers were held to four hits as a team. Alex Babcock (Cortland/Cortland H.S.) and Chris Micucci (Auburn/Auburn H.S.) each had two hits to account for all the knocks as Tompkins Cortland was shutout for the second time this year.
