Sports Medicine

The Tompkins Cortland Community College Sports Medicine department provides care for the College's student-athletes. The department also staffs the athletic training room, and provides preventative care, management of injuries, and rehabilitative services. The goal of the department is to keep all student-athletes healthy, or, if injured, return them to proper playing condition as soon as possible.

Amy Voorhees is the head athletic trainer. Dr. Andrew Getzin, Dr. Monica Radloff, and Dr. Fnu Seemant of Cayuga Medical Center Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance are the team physicians for the Panthers.

Physicals

All student-athletes must undergo an approved physical exam and be cleared by our team doctors before they can participate on a Tompkins Cortland Community College athletic team.

For freshman and transfer student-athletes, there are two options:

Option 1: On-campus physicals with our team doctors

  • Our team physicians will be performing physicals for winter and spring sports on Thursday, August 31 beginning at 4 p.m. in the Athletic Training Room.
  • Sign up for a time on the sign-up sheet outside the Athletic Training Room.
  • On-campus physicals with our team doctors cost $60, with payment due at time of the physical.

Option 2: If you prefer, you can get a physical done by your own doctor prior to the start of preseason

  • Your doctor must use this Preparticipation Physical Evaluation form. This is the only form accepted by our team doctors.
  • The form must be filled out completely. Any “yes” answers must be thoroughly explained and relevant paperwork included.
  • The completed form and all related medical records should be sent to Athletic Trainer Amy Voorhees (contact information below) by Monday, August 7 for fall sports. For winter and spring sports, return the paperwork by Monday, August 28.
  • Once the paperwork is received, our team doctors will review and make the final decision on medical clearance for your participation.
  • If you have any pre-existing conditions that may cause concern (i.e. - surgery, cardiac tests, respiratory tests), please provide the appropriate records from your doctor regarding these issues, including office notes, surgical reports, and imaging studies. Providing these records with you will help prevent delays with clearance for your participation.

Returning Student-Athletes

If you participated on a Tompkins Cortland varsity team in 2022-23 and plan to return in 2023-24 for a fall sport, you need to come to the Athletic Training Room on the day of the on-campus physicals (August 11) for a check-up (no cost). For returning winter and spring sport student-athletes, please come to the Athletic Training Room for a check-up when you arrive on campus.
